3rd CommNet2 PhD School (Focus on Energy Efficiency)
September 17 @ 8:00 am - September 19 @ 5:00 pm
CommNet2 is delighted to be hosting our 3rd PhD School concurrently with the Next GWiN 5th International Workshop on Next Generation Green Wireless Networks. Next GWiN 2018 is the latest in a series of successful, international workshops that focus on the state of the art in the field of green communications. This is an absolutely crucial topic for researchers to be able to understand, 5G is fast becoming a tangible technology with first deployments being prepared and the standard taking a clear shape. However, with new ambitious goals and high data rates of 5G, energy issues are now more important than ever.
This year, Next GWiN 2018 will be hosted in Sheffield (UK), and those attending the 3rd CommNet2 PhD School will also be attending the Next GWiN 2018 workshop (17th and 18th Sept) free of charge, as well as taking part in an extra day of in-depth research training (19th Sept).
The Next GWiN workshop over days 1 and 2 has a truly excellent line up of speakers covering…
Energy efficiency in 5G
AI in wireless networks
Energy harvesting and wireless power transfer
Connected and autonomous vehicles (Moving networks)
…and day 3 will be a day of hands-on, interactive researcher training led by expert facilitator Dr. Kevin Byron.
This really is a fantastic opportunity for PhD students from a diverse range of backgrounds to network, and to increase their understanding of the energy efficiency aspects of ICT, irrespective of the main focus of their projects. Our School aims to raise awareness amongst the PGR community of the importance of considering ‘green’ implications early on and to inspire creative, multi-disciplinary thinking.
The school is free to attend for a limited number of PhD students registered at UK Universities and we will fund 3 x nights accommodation for successful applicants in the city of Sheffield and cover costs of socials and a conference dinner. We are currently open for applications, students must be nominated by a supervisor, see here, please don’t delay as spaces will be limited to ~40.
